February's Word of the Month - Love

by Linda Lee Sheldon on 02/01/15

In February we celebrate Valentine's Day.  It's a day of sharing special treats of love with those in our lives who are dear to us.  Not surprisingly the word of the month is Love - an intense feeling of deep affection.

Love is a beautiful emotion, if we can call it that.  It seems more than an emotion when we think of the essence of this beautiful feeling.  True Love is unconditional and non-judgmental, not object or action-dependent.  It is the feeling that arises with the connection to our inner divinity.  We've heard the saying "God is Love."  Whether you call it God or The Universe or Divine Wisdom, when we tap into the God-essence within ourselves and others we can experience the fullness of Love.

We easily do this when we look at a baby or a newborn animal.  They "touch our heart" and make us feel happy.  That's the feeling of unconditional Love.

Love is the attribute of Heart Chakra, the energy center located at the heart area.  In addition to being the center for processing unconditional love it also governs our balance, peace and calm.  The Heart Chakra is associated with the heart, lungs and thymus gland - the gland that regulates our immune system.  So keeping our heart filled with Love is very beneficial to our body, mind and spirit!

The next time someone is unkind to you, or downright mean and nasty, try focusing your attention on that idea of unconditional Love.  Look at the person in a non-judgmental way.  It's amazing how we start recognizing the beauty within the person in spite of their outward actions.
